Every now and then we get that urge to feel the adrenaline rush which is one reason we plan to celebrate their special days in a way that’s different from the rest of the world. To celebrate the moments of love, joy and togetherness on Karwachauth, we planned a ride to one of the most beautiful places in Himachal Pradesh.
Our destination was a beautiful holiday home in Dunti village which situated 9 KM before Chail, Himachal Pradesh. This new luxurious property goes by the name – Ekam which means ‘Oneness’. We got this opportunity to enjoy our stay in the super-luxurious property as the part of the collaboration with StayOnSkill. It is a platform where you can stay at someone’s home in exchange of teaching your skills which you are excel at.
This is our second-time collaboration with StayOnSkill. During our first collaboration, we got the opportunity to stay at Camp Fairview in Himachal Pradesh where we helped our hosts to learn about internet marketing. Remember our blog post Camp Fairview, Shimla: A Beautiful Abode Amidst Nature? At Camp Fairview, we got to meet Adev, his dad and Diesel. This time we met another gem of a person, Mr. Sumeet.
Wanna know how was our experience of stay in Ekam at Chail? Read on to know more!
First and the foremost thing, I would like to mention here before I begin sharing my experience with you all is that Ekam is a dream home of Mr. Sumeet. He has put in all the efforts in making is his dream home.
Besides, Sumeet made sure that no harm is caused to the environment in making his home in the laps of mother nature. Infact, he has made his home as eco-friendly as he could.
Rest bits, I’ll share with you all in a while. For now, let me begin with the review part.
We reached Ekam at 1 PM and were welcomed by Mr. Sumeet, the owner of this luxurious property. Such a warm-hearted, soft-spoken and nice person he is! We were taken by awe even before stepping in the property. The wooden staircase is crafted in a naturally beautiful way. A melodious sounding doorbell hangs on the main door.
As you enter, you get such positive vibes that you can’t resist checking out all the corners of the home (We were damn tired, but we were so much in awe that we checked out every nook and corner of the property and we simply loved it).
Believe me, words can’t do the real justice in sharing our experience with you all. Still, I’ll try to give it a shot. Every bit of our trip to Ekam Holiday Home was nice.
It was my Karwchauth so didn’t eat anything all day long, but the chef of Ekam was a nice person who had specially made a Pizza for me (without garlic and onion). Besides, he made Gudd (jaggery) ka Halwa.
The best part was that everyone was awake and anxiously waiting with me for the moon. After the Puja, I had Pizza and Halwa with everyone. It was such a warm gesture of the people of Ekam.
Next day, we explored the property more. Loved the way Sumeet had put all the efforts to make his dream home. Throughout our stay, we were sharing stories, knowing how he conceived the idea of building his home in Himachal, what all it took to make his home, how and why he made his home eco-friendly and much more. Not only this, Sumeet has this immense knowledge about various kinds of herbs and their benefits.
A Bit More About the Property
Ekam is a holiday home which Sumeet has beautifully given shape to. There’s a huge garden out on the back side where you can enjoy the village view. Ample of seating space to enjoy your favorite drinks in the evening time.
The property includes three rooms (on the first floor) plus one room (in the attic). The moment you enter, there is a dining area, on the left-hand side you see the kitchen area and on the right-hand side is the huge living room.
There is a stairway to the first floor where there are three rooms along with a small library and a small meditation room. The rooms are named Green room, Red room, Grey room and Attic room which is mainly according to the color themes.
Let me introduce you to all the rooms of Ekam!
We stayed in the red room. It’s a room that has a big balcony where you can sit back and relax while enjoying the sunset. Beautiful landscapes will make you fall in love with them.
This is the best room to enjoy the sunset from your balcony.
It's a lovely room where families with kids can stay. It has a beautiful cozy corner (attic) which kids are sure to love.
The balcony is small but there is no compromise in terms of views. The bathroom of this room also is made in such a way that you can enjoy the glimpse of nature.
It’s a room with softness in terms of colour theme, a fireplace in one corner, huge bathroom with a view, all together make this room a nice bet.
It is the newly added room. A room with no balcony but a room worth drooling over. I was so much in love with this room, the windows, bathroom, wooden texture, all add to the beauty of the room.
The bathroom of attic room has a big window and you can hop to reach a small balcony. I did it and trust me, you’ll love the views from this balcony.
Besides, these rooms, there is a kitchen area where everything is cooked in natural and hygienic manner. Also, they have a Chulha that is used for cooking food. Not that, they don’t have modern appliances but then they have kept the traditional old ways of cooking intact.
How can we forget about the living room? We are out of words, check the pictures yourself!
The exterior of the property is as breathtaking as the interiors.
The property is spread in around 6000 sq. feet area with gigantic pine and Deodar trees around.
Also, there are farms and a person is assigned the job to take care of all the plants and water them from time to time. Many vegetables are grown here and used for cooking.

- The sit-outs let you relax and rejuvenate in the lapse of mother nature.
I have already talked about Pizza and Halwa. The Pizza was made without onion and garlic, which are supposedly the main ingredients of Pizzas but I didn’t feel something was missing. Infact, we both loved it to the core. Sarson ka Saag with Makki ki Roti, Thai Curry, Momos, Spring Rolls, Pancakes, Chocolate Mousse Cake, Channe ke Kebabs, Aloo ka Paranthas, Methi ka Paranthas were the delicacies we had at Ekam.
Trust me, the chef will make you fall in love with the food he cooks.
Not to forget the nettle leaves tea, which we had was amazing and Sumeet told us about its health benefits.
How to Reach?
Ekam is about 77 km from Kalka via Kandaghat. It is around 340 km from Delhi. Once you reach the Dunti village while coming from Kandaghat, there is Sharma Dhaba on the left next to which is a trail going uphill. You can drive till the main gate of the property which is 100-200 meters from the main road. Thereafter, you will have to walk on the wooden stairs.
